The Shared Learning Collaborative aims to make personalized education in public schools more affordable by building an open-source data store and API. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation sponsored the project.
As UX lead for the administrator tools, I began by drawing workflows in Omnigraffle. Having something visual to reference helped the team have conversations and make improvements.
After the worksflows were vetted, I created wireframes of individual screens in Omnigraffle. However, the static wireframes made communication with the developers cumbersome.
In an effort to better show interactions I started using the Bootstrap framework to rapidly prototype fully functioning pages (without styling or connection to a backend). Bootstrap prototypes, with ProtoNotes annotations, have been a great communication and testing tool.
