Code of Conduct

The February Code for America residency month in Chattanooga was chock-a-block. Amongst all the activity, the ride-along with code enforcement officer Zach, a model of compassion for citizens and deep care for his job, stuck with me.

The moment that stands out, was when Zach paused his conversation with a landlord about the repairs that needed to be made to a rental, to flag a passing car. He called to the driver by name, and full of camaraderie, reminded him that a vehicle in his yard had to be moved or he’d be forced to fine him.

His work resonated with his greater mission: to improve properties and neighborhoods for those that live in them.

Zach’s example inspired our team to explore the need for safe, affordable housing in Chattanooga more deeply. We hope to match his precedent in our work.
